In the US will be printed the first batch of tablets on a 3D printer

Printed tablets

The US Department of Health (FDA) has approved the release of certain types of medications through 3D printing technology. Among them, in particular, were dentures, the drug Spritam, developed by Aprecia Pharmaceuticals for patients suffering from epileptic seizures, as well as narcotic drugs at certain dosages.

In the company Aprecia developed a special technology – ZipDose, which allows the production of tablets that are convenient for swallowing. Using the 3D platform, Aprecia Pharmaceuticals will be able to pack up to 1,000 milligrams into individual tablets. After acceptance, they dissolve just like all other medicines.

The technology of printing tablets practically does not differ from the production of other objects – the layer is applied behind the layer. 3D printing gives physicians one very important advantage – the ability to adjust the dose of the drug for a particular patient with the help of simple software settings .
